Last year at this time we brought you both a Hanukkah and a Christmas track - Holiday Lagniappe! Today, in keeping with that tradition, we again have two brand new numbers for you recorded just 9 days ago.
If you recall, last year's Hanukkah release, "Spin The Dreidel," featured musician, teacher, raconteur, culture bearer and larger than life personality (plus Panorama tuba and banjo sub), Mark Rubin, "Jew of Oklahoma." This year we enlisted Mark again with another tune originally recorded by cantor and vaudevillian Moishe Oysher (1906-1958) commemorating the Festival of Lights, "Have a Happy Hanukkah."
Mr. Oysher cobbled together his text from the Yiddish phrase "Hot a gitn Hanukke" ("Have a happy Hanukkah") as well as a Hebrew prayer often read during Hanukkah, the "Al Hanissim," which thanks the Almighty for the many blessings of redemtion. Mark then rearranged those words and added a rant of his own.
Thanks for listening,

We thank you for the miracles and your abundant mercies that in the days of our ancestors you delivered us from the hands of the few into the hands of the many and from the hands of the mighty into the hands of the weak. It is for this miracle of redemption that we commemorate the eight days of Hanukkah! It was a great miracle.
