about

Hi everybody, this is one I'm particularly happy and excited about!

One of my favorite people in the whole wide world is my Bennington College room mate, Charlie Zeleny. He and I had a musical act called "The New Punk Peanut Butter Band" where we each played guitar and sang. One night laying around our dorm room in about 1984 I threw together some fairly random chords and he added a spontaneous, whimsical melody to it. That theme eventually became an instrumental number we used to play on our gigs that we called "Why Not."

I had been thinking for some time about arranging it for Panorama and, when we got the May 25 recording session together with the quartet, I literally assigned Charlie's guitar line to the banjo and then divided my part between the accordion and tuba. Then, just last Monday, Panorama drummer Doug Garrison and I overdubbed a bunch of silly percussion effects to augment the carefree, cartoonish character of the track. The end result is a short, fun, catchy tune that I for one have been listening to over and over for the past 48 hours.

Thanks for your support!
