about
Back in June we sent you a lovely melody, "Ave Maria", that we had learned for a wedding processional in March. At the time I also promised you the first dance from that wedding and here it is!
Written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" was a hit record for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in 1967, eventually reaching the number 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (behind the song "Windy," by The Association. Which we will not be recording).
Our March bride requested this one as their first dance and I made an arrangement, giving the lead vocal part to Charlie Halloran's trombone and setting it in a cha-cha groove. Since it sounded so good (and since we're always scrambling to come up with more good music for you) we decided to record it on our next session. We hope it brings you joy!
A funny side note about "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You." Many years ago (I think it was in 2000) I was on tour with Panorama's "Banjo Emeritus" Patrick Mackey and the New Orleans folk dance company, Komenka Ethnic Dance and Music Ensemble. We spent a week or 10 days in Northern Hungary and as the bus was pulling into the town of Tokaj, famous for it's wine, we saw a concert band playing in the village square. Patrick and I got excited and wondered what they were playing. Czardas? Bartok? Something Hungarian? Nope. You guessed it, "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You."
Thanks for listening and for your continued support.

lyrics
This one is an instrumental but, if you want to sing along, here are the lyrics to the original version by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Words and music by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio.
Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that it's real
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
I love you, baby
And if it's quite alright, I need you, baby
To warm a lonely night, I love you, baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh, pretty baby
Don't bring me down, I pray, oh pretty baby
Now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
I love you, baby
And if it's quite alright I need you, baby
To warm a lonely night, I love you, baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh, pretty baby
Don't bring me down, I pray, oh pretty baby
Now that I found you, stay, oh pretty baby
Trust in me when I say
