about
Happy New Year everybody!
Here's the new one featuring New Orleans' own John Boutté with the vocal. "I Got Loaded," from South Louisiana's Li'l Bob and the Lollipops, is for everybody thinking about their new year's resolution.
Camille Bob was a drummer, singer, bandleader and songwriter originally from Arnaudville. According to Wikipedia (which Panorama supports financially and encourages you to as well), he and the Lollipops stayed busy playing gigs and making records throughout South Louisiana from the late 50s on into the 2000s until he passed in 2015.
I made an arrangement of the tune for Panorama and was originally gonna sing it myself in the key of C. But, after we had the instruments in the can, I tried and realized that C was too high for my baritone voice. Who you gonna call? John Boutté! You already know John and you will have heard him on two tracks we put out in 2018, "Box Car Shorty" and "Happy Land." He's a one-of-a-kind stylist and one of the first people I got to know when I moved to New Orleans in 1988.
Between Doug's rock solid two-beat shuffle and Michael's accordion, this one has a bit of a zydeco feel. Also, for the occasion, I changed the final verse so that the protagonist decides to turn over a new leaf for his new year's resolution.
We hope you like it. Thanks for listening and for your support: financial, emotional and everything in between. Laissez les bon temps roulez!
Ben

lyrics
Last night, I got loaded
On a bottle of gin
On a bottle of gin y'all
Last night, well I got loaded
On a bottle of gin
On a bottle of gin
And I feel all right
Feel all right
Yes I feel all right
Feel all right
Night before last, I got loaded
On a bottle of whiskey
On a bottle of whiskey
Yeah, the other night, well I got loaded
On a bottle of whiskey
On a bottle of whiskey
But I feel all right
Feel all right
Feel all right
Feel all right
Hey y'all, I gotta tell ya. All this booze is starting to really take a toll on me. My friends, my relationships, my bank account, my health! Well shucks, this being new year’s day and all, I think it's about time for me to turn over a new leaf. You know, I'll try something a lil different.
Tonight, I'm gonna stay sober
But I'm gonna have fun y'all
Yeah, I'm gonna have fun
Well, tonight, I'm gonna stay sober
But I'm gonna have fun
I'm a-gonna have fun
And I'll feel all right
I'm gonna feel all right
I'ma feel all right
Feel all right
I'm gonna feel all right
I'm feelin' all right
Yeah I feel all right
Well all right all right
No more headaches, sleeping so much better
I feel so good
Yeah I'm feelin' damn good!
