about

Today's release is another in our series reviving tunes we used to play. It is also the final track from our May 16 2023 session at Marigny Studios and the last one (for now) that includes Michael Ward-Bergeman on accordion.

"L'Age Atomic" is a Creole mazurka written by the great Martiniquan singer and bandleader, Loulou Boislaville. I originally learned it from a CD by clarinetist Eugène Delouche, of whose recordings we've covered several ("L'Age Atomique," "Martinique," "Sous Les Tropiques," "Les Deux Jumeaux," "La Mazouk En Avant" and "En Ti Punch"). I still have no idea what the significance of the title is unless, maybe the players consider the Atomic Age a big party!

We have a couple of other Creole mazurkas in our catalog, "Balcon Fleuri" (from our 2003 CD, "Another Hot Night In February"), "Dansez La Mazouk" (GMFY Apr 2015) and "La Mazouk En Avant" (GMFY Jul 2016). The rhythm is in a three pattern but, unlike a waltz, a mazouk is highly synchopated and polyrhythmic.

We hope "L'Age Atomique" adds some extra party to your Carnival celebrations this year. BTW, If you’re in New Orleans, come roll with Panorama Brass and the St Anthony Ramblers on Mardi Gras day!
Thanks for all your support,

Ben
