about

Hi Everybody,
Well, things have gotten truly bizarre and, for a lot of people, really awful in the last two weeks. For Panorama, as far as people have reported to me, everybody is healthy and safe. Staying home, waiting and making the best of things. We've had 100% of all of our gigs cancelled for the foreseeable future but it looks like there are dollars going around to musicians. I've applied for relief myself and have also raised money on GoFundMe to help the players with their bills.
If you'd like to donate, go to:
gf.me/u/xs7y2k. We met our original goal of $1000 within like 72 hours but as long as funds keep coming in, I'll keep distributing them to the players.
I am so glad we did that live session at Luthjens' last month! Thanks to that one gig (recorded live by Rick Nelson), We have enough content to send you for several months, if necessary.
Your Panorama song-of-the-month for April is another tune we recorded on our first CD, "Another Hot Night in February," which we released in 2003. You may know the original recording of "Sali Dame" from the seminal 1947 album, "Jazz A La Creole" featuring Albert Nicholas (clarinet), James P. Johnson(piano), Danny Barker (guitar), Pops Foster(bass) and Freddy Moore(drums). That's where we learned it from.
I'm sorry if I'm butchering the lyrics or the Creole spelling. Here's my best translation. And while I believe I understand the lyrics' literal meaning, I'm sure I'm missing most of the inside jokes.
Thanks for listening, thanks for your support, STAY WELL, let me know how you're doing and stand by for some fresh new tracks as soon as we're able to get back in the recording studio.
At your service,
Ben Schenck

lyrics
Mamselle Josephine, li resté dan la ri Dauphine
Glissé ainsi un bobine et cassé to ti jamb fine
Sali Dame Sali Dame Sali Dame bonjour
Sali Dame laissé mo wa to gros nwa toto!

Si vous cui un poule po moi, cui li sans un fricassé
Pas blié po met la sauce tomate avec un gros gallon du vin.
=======
Miss Josephine stayed on Dauphine Street
Slipped on a bobbin and broke her fine little leg
Sali Dame (either "hello lady," "salty lady" or "dirty lady." Or all three) hello.
Sali Dame let me see your big black ass!
If you cook a chicken for me, cook it in a fricassee
Don't forget to add the tomato sauce with a big gallon of wine.
