about

This is our second of two numbers recorded back in March with DC area percussionist (and an early mentor of mine), Steve Bloom. Last month we sent you a tune based on a cumbia groove and today's track, “The Game Plan,” is in an Afrobeat style, based on a pattern by one of the founders of the genre, Nigerian set drummer Tony Allen. For examples of him playing a similar vibe, check out Mr. Allen's "Home Cookin'" or Fela Kuti’s "Opposite People."

In this one you'll hear the tune laid out twice with some call and response between players before we get into ad lib solos from Charlie on trombone, Aurora on alto saxophone and Steve on congas. May it put a little extra bounce in your step this month!

It's JazzFest here in New Orleans, it's springtime and the long, hot summer is coming up fast. We hope you enjoy receiving new music from us every month. We couldn't do it without you. Thanks for your support.
