Happy Halloween y'all!
Your song-of-the-month for November is here a day early.

For part of the COVID lockdown, I had a tenor banjo in the house and used the opportunity to learn my way around the fingerboard a little bit. "Things That Go Bump" began as the banjo lick that opens the track with everything else built around it. Since banjo and tuba are holding down that D7 chord so firmly, I was curious how weird we could get with the rest of the sonorities. The accordion cuts across it with an F chord while the horns go to some weird and disturbing places.

For the trombone solo, we cut out banjo and tuba, leaving accordion on that F chord with drums. Then I assigned Charlie a few discordant pitch sets to blow over, sounding tense as he is increasingly pestered then tormented by the reeds, tuba and (last straw) the banjo.

As a result, the overall effect is rather spooky, yet funky. Just in time for Halloween! Add it to your playlist and let me know how the party turns out.

Thanks for listening and for all your support.
